If I had to classify myself I would say I am a portrait
photographer, but it’s the high fashion photography that really captivates me. What
my photography really comes down to is I like people and I like beauty. I love
to make people feel beautiful, and I express that through my photography. What
I have been pondering more so lately though is the question “What is beauty?”
Artists like Irving Penn and Annie Leibovitz inspire my quest for beauty. I
love Irving Penn’s use of black and white and Annie Leibovitz high fashion
modern look. You can see in some of my photos how these artists work has
inspired me.
Lighting is important to me, as I assume it would be for any
photographer, but I like to play with a mix of outdoor light and studio. I like
harsh contrast in lighting that just makes people pop. Contrast you could say
is my best friend when it comes to the post processing of my images as well. I
strive to take photographs that hold my attention and ones that are extremely
sharp.
One odd thing about being a photographer is that when I see
new people the first thing I look at is their jaw structure and eyes. I suppose
it comes with liking to photograph people and models but that is always what I
notice first about people. Every time I go outside and see a beautiful scene
the first thing I think of is how it would look so much better with a model
posing there.
In the end I love what I do and one could say I strive to
make people feel beautiful, and to create stunning, sharp, dramatic images that
captivate the eye.
