Beyond Vision Tactile Art Exhibition
including Open Box 2012: Chiara

October 19 – November 11 (5:00pm – 8:00pm)
Northwestern Mutual Art Gallery

This years Open Box inspiration came from two elements:

1) Cardinal Stritch's Clare Lamp which symbolizes knowledge and truth

2) Fall 2012 Art Gallery Exhibition entitled 'Beyond Vision, Tactile Art Exhibition'

Each student created work that explored the internal and external forces that influence their ability to create. Students were also asked to tackle the idea of the 'artist vision' as an interplay of sight and insight by exploring their world when their sense of sight was removed. Students have created artwork that can be experienced by a visually impaired audience.

Able, Inc. where the students learned how braille is read and written.
Students learning how to read and write in braille.

Students learn the importance of movement when their vision was removed.

Every student was to find five words that best describe their experiences.

Laura Misco helped students work through their experiences and form them into poetry.

The poem
Lost in the static,
The physical unknown.

In our world of isolation,
We are not alone.

Like feeling with our fingers,
The things we can't see.

Chilling, foreign, blurry blank,
Everything a mystery.

Get lost in the static,
Freedom in clarity.

Stop by the gallery Friday, October 19th to support the students!
