According to their website, "RedLine Milwaukee was founded by local artists Lori Bauman and Steve Vande Zande in October 2009. Goals of professional development, access and social justice are met through RedLine’s Programs: Residency, Exhibition and Education. The 22,000 square foot building includes exhibition space, artist studios, a community printshop and paper making studio, a computer lab, and classrooms. Milwaukee’s only artist-in-residence program, RedLine houses nine emerging artists, five mentoring artists, six teen residents and several visiting artists annually. Additionally, RedLine connects artists with community organizations through workshops, classes, and outreach."
Currently, Redline is looking for designers to participate in their Repurposed Runway Competition.
CALLING All Fashion Designers/Artists to be part of RedLine Milwaukee’s RePurposed Runway Design Competition. Designers/Artists will create a fashion forward garment and accessories using any icon as inspiration for their creation. Icons may be drawn from music, fashion, art, business, etc. Garments and accessories must be made out of materials that are used, post consumer, or on its way to a landfill. Use your imagination. The event’s concept is to explore new uses for materials that have reached the end of their life cycle.
RedLine Milwaukee, in all facets, strives to achieve its primary objectives of access, social consciousness, and professional development. This competition helps us reach our mission of social consciousness and professional development, as well as continue the conversation with the community referencing green and sustainability issues.
Garments will be judged at RedLIne Milwaukee’s 4th Annual Fashion Show, “Fusion” which will take place on Friday, September 21, 2012. A Fine Art Catalog promoting designers, contest entries, and local green spaces will be published and available at the Fashion Show on the 21st of September.
The contest will be limited to 24 designers. Applications will determine which 24 designers will compete for a prize package. Applications will be taken from January 2, 2011 through March 1, 2012. Designers accepted into the competition will be announced on March 16, 2012 on the RePurposed Runway Facebook Page. Completed outfits due at RedLine on July 27, 2011. Entries will be judged by seven criteria: creativity, construction, use of recycled goods, design, theme content, overall look and the question, “Is the entry fashion forward?” Designers will secure models for the contest.
